Are the answers really in the stars?
We can thank the ancient Babylonians for the very first concepts of astrology. Created in 1894 BC, the zodiac signs were a way to define the ecliptic path of the Sun across the celestial sphere. Signs were used to represent 12 equal periods (i.e., a 12-month calendar) that chronicled the Sun’s path through the constellations formed by the stars.
Throughout time, the constellations have traded names and meanings in various cultures. They were often assigned a god or a hero and represented the powers or magic of their namesakes. The Greeks found meaning in the date of a person’s birth and used the zodiac to predict the fortunes and life of people born under a particular sign.
Fast-forward to today and society still has a fascination with the stars. I mean, who hasn’t checked the web for a daily horoscope or a primer to the most compatible relationship signs? Whether you look to zodiac signs as a symbol of expression, a talisman of spirituality, or a fun distraction, they remain relevant to our human experience.
Zodiac signs make fantastic jewelry because they allow the wearer to connect to a piece in a very personal way. The symbol can be bold for the whole world to see or it can carry a special meaning known only to you. It can provide inspiration, confidence, strength, comfort, encouragement or just make a fun fashion statement.
CRISLU’s take on the Zodiac showcases the constellations in precious .925 sterling silver with a finish of pure platinum or 18kt yellow gold. “Stars” of cubic zirconia can be seen on both the front and back of the medallion. The 16” chain has two 1” extensions so you can wear this piece alone or as part of your own personal layered look.
